Girl on the sidewalk

A heart that beats is life the living.  Masked with flesh to cover the wounds of countless battles of abuse we all dare to hide.

The girl had wide eyes and an open mouth as she realized that it happened again, she covered her mouth but could not stop gazing in disbelief as her knees buckled.  She became like stone, paralyzed of body and mind.

The smile so sweet but empty and sullen was always the look in her eyes.  When a man walked by she never looked up even though her beauty was like the smell of a flower.  Her appearance was like a fragrance mesmerized by the aroma.

It was a sunny day in April and it had stormed the night before with light showers at dawn, the smell of the dew and fresh baked bread filled the air each morning as she walked to local bakery.  She enjoyed the freedom she felt as she almost walked with a slight bounce.  Her head rocked back and forth as if music played and her lips blushed the brightest red.

They made the perfect smile with the illusion that her voice would sound of harmony.

Her life seemed to look perfect or close to it.  She played the role well but secretly wanted revenge.  She became confused on what she should feel.  Time does heal but it also feels like it may repeat the past.  It may be different but it is always the same.

The girl walked carefree.

The presentation seemed confident and effortless.

Everyone was fooled but a storm was building behind a painted smile.
