Mukhaizna, Oman pt.3 - The Job

Hey All,

We got to go out and “play” in the sand.  Actually we did a site visit to see what is where.

As far as work is concerned, I am here to do a control upgrade on one of their old Water Treatment Facilities.  Apparently the plant controls were never completed or properly executed by an Indian (not like me) company and the customer went another way.  As far as Water Plants go, this one is fairly a Small to Medium one but it incorporates the latest technologies like Reverse Osmosis and a cascaded pH control algorithm.  We really have our work cut out because the original contractor never gave the customer a Project Book or Operation manual.  Because of this, we are forced to go to every piece of equipment and verify their settings.

Some of you are probably wondering “is that really necessary?”  Well, yes it is.  I do not want to start a process without knowing exactly what is there.  It would be like if your car’s gas tank did not read right.  If you put gas in it based on what the level gage said, and it was not reading right, you could either run out of gas or overfill the tank.  Neither of which are good.   So, I will need to go out in the 116 degree heat to make sure I have all the critical info I need.  What the heck, they are paying me a lot of money to be here, the least I could do was sweat a bit, lmao.

My old company got the job but folded before they could finish it.  I went ahead and postponed my start date with a new/old employer just so I could do this job.  When I get back, I plan on taking some time off and enjoying water.  Any water, as long as it’s wet, lol.

I haven't been sleeping well but am now taking Tylenol PM and I only wake up once or so a night.  There is a huge "flare" about a mile away and even then it sounds like a jet engine nearby.  Some of you are familiar with High Pressure Flares and this sucker is bigger than the ones that are allowed in the US.

It is really nice they do our laundry every day.  It even gets folded and all.  We leave it on the railing and it magically appears in the afternoon.  Must be the genies……

Oh, a Bedouin update.  Apparently they will steal things that are nailed down.  I heard a story that when they get caught, they don’t even stop.  They just keep on like you don’t exist.  They feel that everything in the country is at their disposal and for their use.  Even the stuff contractors bring.  They have a local store around the camp and I would not be surprised to go in one day and find my stuff on the shelves, lol.
